SOCIAL CRISIS: The strike at Lufthansa will concern “all flights” from German airports, whether domestic or international
Due to a strike by the UFO cabin crew syndicate, 1,300 flights by German airline Lufthansa will be cancelled on Thursday and Friday, the group said in a statement on Wednesday.
About 2,300 will be made this Thursday, of the planned 3,000 and 2,400 flights on Friday, instead of the expected 3,000, which will affect a total of some 180,000 passengers, said the company in a statement.
Union points to Lufthansa’s “persistent refusal to negotiate”
The strike began Wednesday at 11 pm and should last until Friday. It concerns “all flights” from German airports, whether domestic or international, according to UFO. The union decided to launch this social movement because of “Lufthansa’s persistent refusal to negotiate” on its demands, he said in a statement.
Lufthansa has regularly challenged the legitimacy of the union to represent employees. His action in court to prevent the strike to be held was nevertheless rejected Wednesday by the Frankfurt Labour Court. Lufthansa called in the wake of this decision, said a spokesman for the group that should be fixed on this appeal in the evening.
Lufthansa subsidiaries will not be affected
The company also stated that its subsidiaries (Eurowings, Germanwings, Sunexpress, Lufthansa Cityline, SWISS, Edelweiss, Austrian Airlines, Air Dolomiti and Brussels Airlines) were not affected by the strike. It is studying what lines these airlines could use larger aircraft to offer alternative flight options to passengers affected by the strike.
Lufthansa also offers its customers to book a free Lufthansa flight within the next ten days without delay. German domestic routes may use Deutsche Bahn whether or not their flights are cancelled.
