How to fight pigeons that dirty Paris and your shoulders? The question, very serious, was addressed Tuesday, October 2, 2019 at the Paris Council . The elected representatives of the majority have adopted a “pigeon plan” to fight against the nuisance of these birds.
Mediation and verbalization reinforced
Thanks to a study conducted by the association Aerho, between December 2016 and June 2017, the pigeon population was estimated at 23,000 birds. The estimate was made possible thanks to the nine dovecotes already installed in the streets of Paris. This study is the starting point of the plan presented Tuesday by the elected official in charge of the issue, Pénélope Komitès, assistant to biodiversity.

The plan will be divided into four areas: management of pigeons by the assistant in connection with town halls; enhanced communication; new dovecotes and repression of the feeders. Feed the pigeons is already prohibited by the code of public health, but the mayor wants to get rid of the problem with “work of mediation” and “prosecution and reinforcement of verbalization”, to 68 euros the fine.
To better regulate the population of grey birds in Paris, the town hall wants to multiply the dovecotes. About a thousand of them, 5% of the estimated total population, sleep in one of the nine dovecotes of the City. To improve this situation, the elected officials want the pigeons to be fed again in the dovecotes and those new ones are installed, as well as shelters where they swarm.
