Terrible drama in Lorient (Morbihan), Sunday 9th June 2019. Around 5.30pm, two children aged 7 and 10 were struck by a car, while they were on the pavement, at the roundabout of Keryado, indicates the prosecutor of the Republic Laureline Peyrefitte.
One killed, the other seriously injured
The vehicle was travelling very fast in a bus lane, before striking a car at the exit of a roundabout and mowing down the two victims. One of the children, unfortunately, did not survive and died as a result of his injuries.
The second was taken care of in a very serious state by the firefighters. Her vital prognosis is in a critical condition, specifies the magistrate.
The two suspects on the run
The driver of the car and passenger ran away. They had previously refused to obey in a nearby commune and were followed at a distance by the gendarmes who had attempted an interception.
The two suspects left their vehicle a hundred metres away and continued on foot. They are actively sought. The investigation was entrusted to the police station of Lorient.
The alleged perpetrators face a 10-year prison sentence for aggravated manslaughter and aggravated unintentional injuries.
