It had been several years since she was living on the other side of the Mediterranean. One of his co-religionists from the Filles de Jésus community remembers:
“During her visits to Massac (her congregation of origin, near Lavaur, in the Tarn, ed), Sister Inès told us that he was slow to leave. It was felt more Central African than European. “
Decapitated body
A native of Spain, the 77-year-old nun died in the village of Nola, belonging to the diocese of Berbérati (Central African Republic) , where she was sent on mission to the local population, as the diocese of Albi explains .
On the night of Sunday 19 to Monday 20 May 2019 , the room she occupied had been found both empty and upside down by the guardian. He immediately gave the alert.
The villagers spontaneously joined the search. According to Vatican News, the headless body of the nun had finally been found near the river on the edge of the forest.
A country beset by violence
In the grip of violence over the last six years, the Central African Republic is a small country of 4.5 million inhabitants that once belonged to French Equatorial Africa.
Sister Ines Nieves Sancho was from Burgos (Castilla y Leon, Spain). For many years, she was part of the community of the Filles de Jesus of Massac-Séran, near Lavaur, now in mourning.
She was teaching sewing to girls
In Africa, says Vatican News, she learned sewing in particular to girls. She has lived there since 1996. The victim was buried Tuesday, May 21, 2019, because of the tropical heat that reigns over the country.
For the moment, the motive for this assassination remains unknown.
