An animation specially designed for the 75th anniversary of the Normandy landings will be projected on the facade of the town hall of Caen (Calvados), from June 6, 2019.
A video mapping will be projected on the facade of the City Hall of Caen (Calvados) for 6 weeks. This will be one of the flagship activities offered to the public as part of the commemorations of the 75 th anniversary of the Allied landing in Normandy . The first screening will be symbolically proposed on Thursday, June 6, 2019 at dusk.
Three nights a week
The clip is in progress to a little over two months of the day, by the company Illumentiel. It will tell the story of Caen, from Occupation to Liberation . This sound and light show will last 18 minutes. The screening will be offered from June 6 to July 20, three times a week, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
If the film remains to be constituted, the main plot is known, as evokes Catherine Pradal, first deputy mayor of Caen:
“This animation which speaks of the Liberation of Caen mixes photos of time, but also sounds of time, with a work of creation which returns to the association Illumentiel.”
A film with heritage
In Caen, Illumentiel is known for being a collective specialized in digital video dressing using video projectors. Its technicians have already worked on several major architectural sites in the past, such as the Porte de Paris in Lille or the Palais de la Culture in Iasi (Romania).
Each time, the facade of the building serves as support and is sublimated. The video animation of the reliefs and the setting in color are generally likely to impress the public. “These trompe-l’oeil are often used as a narration influenced by the history of the place,” says the Illumentiel team. And for the occasion, the history of the town hall of Caen and of the abbey-aux-men which is directly attached to it, will have an immediate echo with the 75th anniversary of the D-Day, since 6 500 Caennais had taken refuge in these places during the liberation of Caen in June and July 1944.
