The Spaniard Omar Fraile (Astana) won the 14th stage of the Tour de France, this Saturday 21st July, 2018, on the heights of Mende .

Fraile, winner for the first time on the Tour, was a few seconds ahead of France’s Julian Alaphilippe and Belgium’s Jasper Stuyven.

The peloton, with the yellow jersey Geraint Thomas and his main opponents, was pointed at nearly 20 minutes to about ten kilometers from the finish on the runway of the airfield.

A first participation in the Tour

A 32-run breakaway was formed from the first hour, after a restless start.

Several contenders (Bardet, Landa, D. Martin) found themselves trapped, in breakages favored by the side wind, before the Sky team ceased its effort due to the change of course.

The breakaway, comprising runners from 15 different teams (out of 22 present in the Tour), widened the gap on a peloton that let go.

At the front, Stuyven has distanced himself 35 kilometers from the finish with his last companions (G. Izagirre, Slagter). He approached the last ramp, 3 kilometers long, with a lead of just over a minute and a half.

Fraile attacked from the foot and overflowed Stuyven 500 meters from the summit. Alaphilippus, who waited longer, came back, but too late to worry Fraile.

The Spaniard (28 years old), winner of a stage of the Giro in 2017 , participates in the Tour for the first time.

Sunday, the 15th stage connects Millau to Carcassonne on a course of kilometers still favorable to the attackers, on the eve of the second day of rest.
