The last day of Garorock was very short because of the weather. Thousands of festival-goers were evacuated Sunday from the festival site in Marmande (Lot-et-Garonne), where all the concerts were canceled due to the risk of thunderstorms and hail at the end of the day.

“Following a prefectural decree issued for weather warning, the day of Sunday, July 1 is canceled. All the concerts this Sunday are canceled and the entire site (concert and camping space) will be closed to the public, “announced the festival organizers on their Facebook page.

About 35,000 people were expected Sunday to attend several concerts: Trio, Imany, Athur H and headlining scheduled at midnight, Macklemore. Announcements were made Sunday early in the afternoon to evacuate places. Shuttle buses were available to campers to Marmande station, as well as cottages for those who stayed on site. According to the Sud Ouest newspaper , 25,000 campers had to be evacuated. The organizers will quickly inform the festival-goers about the repayment terms.


An orange alert for storms

For this 22nd edition started Thursday, 150,000 tickets were sold for these four days of festival.In 2014, the concerts of the second evening of the Garorock festival had already been canceled due to thunderstorms.

Lot-et-Garonne and ten other South-West departments have been placed in orange vigilance for locally strong thunderstorms, expected from the end of the day. New Aquitaine, mainly, could be affected by heavy rainfall, hail and strong gusts of wind, according to Météo France.

On the night of Saturday to Sunday, locally violent storms caused the collapse of part of the roof and floods in a shopping center in Gujan-Mestras, in the Arcachon basin, where firefighters intervened near thirty times.

In the Landes, several roads were cut between Dax, Mimizan and Biscarosse by heavy rainfall and falling trees, according to firefighters, who made 86 interventions.
