France condems violence in the Gaza after the death of 55 Palestinians

The Elysee Palace on Monday condemned the deadly clashes that took place on Monday at the Gaza border. At least 55 Palestinians were killed by the Israeli army during protests against the inauguration of the US embassy in Jerusalem.

France condemned Monday the “violence” in Gaza after the death of 55 Palestinians killed by the Israeli army during demonstrations and clashes against the transfer to Jerusalem of the US embassy in Israel, said the Elysium.

President Emmanuel Macron “will speak to all actors in the region in the coming days,”said the Presidency of the Republic.

The presidency recalls that Mr. Macron had “alerted and warned about the repercussions”of the US decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

A call for “dialogue”

On the 6th December, he described as “regrettable” the decision made the same day by Donald Trump, “that France does not approve, and that contravenes international law and UN Security Council resolutions .

“The status of Jerusalem is a question of international security that concerns the entire international community and, I want to make it clear, the status of Jerusalem will have to be determined by Israelis and Palestinians in negotiations under the auspices of United Nations, “ he added to the press during a visit to Algiers.

He then launched “a call for calm, appeasement, and the responsibility of all.  We must avoid violence at all costs and encourage dialogue “.

Hollande, Mélenchon, Le Foll … other reactions in France

Other politicians reacted strongly on Monday to the bloodbath at the Gaza border. Among them, former President François Hollande. “I had already disapproved and condemned the unilateral decision of Donald Trump […]. Everyone can measure the consequences today. […] Israel must realize that its interest is to find appeasement, avoid repressive escalation and put an end to colonization, “said the former head of state in an interview with Le Parisien .

Jean-Luc Mélenchon, leader of La France insoumise: ” France must condemn the massacres in Gaza . The Israeli ambassador to Paris must be summoned to the Elysee to explain himself. Peace dies under the blows of Netanyahu.

Stéphane Le Foll, PS MP: “Contrary to what Donald Trump says, this day is a dramatic day for those fighting for peace. We have once again moved away from the paths of dialogue. We have fallen into the path of violence after a decision against international law .
