This Monday morning, Meteo France has extended the orange alert for snow and ice to 13 departments of Normandy and Île-de-France. Up to 5 cm fell.
Thirteen departments of Ile-de-France and Normandy are now placed in orange alert for snow and ice , announced Météo-France, in its latest bulletin published at 4am Monday, March 19.
Nine departments: Calvados, Eure, Paris, Hauts-de-Seine, Seine-Saint-Denis, Val-de-Marne, Yvelines and Essonne, Val-d’Oise, had placed as early as Sunday afternoon on orange alert .
Four other departments were placed in the night from Sunday to Monday in orange vigilance: the Channel, Oise, Seine-Maritime and Seine-et-Marne.
The end of the alert is scheduled for Monday at 11:00 for all of these departments.
Up to 5 cm fallen during the night
On the night of Sunday to Monday, between one and three centimetres of snow fell in Ile-de-France with 2.5 centimetres in Roissy and Orly, as well as punctually up to five centimetres in Seine-Maritime and Seine-et-Marne, according to the Meteo France that warns that the snow stays on the ground because of the negative temperatures.
These low but continuous snowfalls will last a few hours. Accumulations of 2 to 5 centimetres are expected throughout the episode, reaching very locally up to 5 to 8 centimetres. On the neighbouring counties to those placed in orange vigilance for snow, heights of the order of 1 to 3 centimetres are expected, according to Meteo France.
Movement of large lorries banned on the RN118
Due to these climatic conditions: “the circulation of all trucks over 7.5 tons is prohibited on the RN118 as of 3.30 am Monday. This ban also extends to public transport vehicles and those transporting dangerous goods, “announced in the night of Sunday to Monday, the Paris police headquarters, in a statement.
“On the main roads (motorways and national network …), the speed of these same vehicles is limited to 80 km / h and any overtaking manoeuvre is also prohibited,” the statement said.
Finally, “Michel Delpuech, Prefect of Police in Paris, also advises travel by car until noon and calls pedestrians and two wheels to the utmost caution.”
