SAFETY: Monday, the United Kingdom must express an opinion on its maintenance or not of Europol, the agency that supports EU countries in the fight against serious international crime and terrorism …

The government UK said on Sunday that it will conclude with the European Union a new security treaty that would continue cooperation in the fight against crime and terrorism after Brexit, scheduled for March 2019.

“A treaty would provide a legal basis for further police cooperation, security and criminal after our EU output,” said the executive in a statement issued before the publication Monday of a working paper on the subject.

Maintaining or not Europol

The working document, which will follow other positions on the future customs relations with the EU, the Northern Ireland border or cooperation in defense, will notably specify the position of the United Kingdom on its maintaining or not Europol, the agency that supports EU countries in the fight against serious international crime and terrorism.

“Effective international cooperation is absolutely crucial for both the United Kingdom and the European Union if we want to keep our citizens safe and bring criminals to justice,” said David Davis, the Minister of Brexit in the press . “We already have an extensive level of cooperation with the EU on security issues and it is in our mutual interest to find ways to improve it,” he added.

The British Prime Minister, Theresa May, is to deliver her next big speech on Brexit on the 22nd September in Florence (Italy), three days before the start of the fourth round of negotiations with Brussels on the terms of the divorce, on the 25th September.
