A draft bylaw regulates the non use of the lake at Lannénec indefinitely, due to water pollution. Samples taken last Friday by the Scorff Basin union revealed pollution of the site by cyanobacteria.
The Union Scorff basin’s mission is to monitor the water quality of large bodies of water. During the summer months, samples are thus made every fortnight.
Microscopic organisms
The latest results of water testing of the lake Lannénec at Ploemeur, made last Friday, showed a pollution site by cyanobacteria (microscopic organisms).
“We have seen significant growth of cyanobacteria with the presence of toxins, at Lannénec, says Stéphanie Harrault, engineer in charge of water quality mixed Union Scorff basin. Cyanobacteria are also known as blue-green algae. They thrive in freshwater, calm, under the combined effect of light, heat and the presence of phosphorus. “
The risks
Some species of cyanobacteria produce toxins. This applies to Lannénec. These toxins can cause health risks to bathers or practitioners of watersports.
The effects can be irritation and redness of the skin, nose, throat, eyes and mucous membranes on contact with water or stomach pains, diarrhea, nausea or vomiting in case swallowed.
For safety and the precautionary principle, the municipality has therefore made an order prohibiting fishing, fish consumption and contact with water indefinitely.
Vigilance
It also calls for vigilance users with their pets, to prevent contamination against them. It is true that this summer, several dogs died in France after swimming in polluted rivers.
