BMW Brand Cars Massively Recalled in France due to Fire Risk

Many models are subject to recall: these are the BMW 2 series, 3 series, 4 series, 5 series, 6 series, 7 series, X3, X4, X5, X6, and Z4.
Lovers of beautiful German displacements, be careful: if you own one BMW, your vehicle may be affected by a product recall, published this Friday 7th August 2026 on the government website Rappel Conso.
And for good reason, a fire can break out in these cars, due to a problem on the starter. So before hit the road to your vacation destination, remember to check if your vehicle is not one of those affected.

The list of cars concerned
This recall only concerns BMW brand cars, but several (many) different models: Series 2, Series 3, Series 4, Series 5, Series 6, Series 7, X3, X4, X5, X6, and Z4. Just that! They were produced between July 31, 2020 and February 26, 2026.
If you own one of these vehicles, you should then check their European approval number, which is located at the letter K from the registration document. Here they are:

What risk incurred?
Conso Rappel presents the problem with these cars as such: The RSW22 starter with water-enhanced sealing (RWT) may experience increased abrasion of the magnetic contact, causing deposits to build up at the lowest point inside the relay. “
Deposits that can increase the contact resistance of the relay, which can lead to starting failures or short circuits.
And this is where it becomes dangerous: if a short circuit occurs, “either when trying to start the vehicle or when driving due to vibration-related movement of the deposits”, this could cause a thermal event and thus increase the risk of fire.
