Return of Heat for the End of May: Towards a Radical Change in Weather in France

While this long Ascension 2026 weekend promises to be unusually cold for the season, almost summer weather is emerging for next week. The forecasts.

Maximum temperatures often located five to eight degrees below seasonal averages, showers worthy of March, wind, sometimes strong… This long Ascension weekend (and in particular Thursday 14th May and Friday 15th May 2026) will be under the influence of maritime polar air.

In other words, very (very) costs, in a diet showers sometimes stormy, with even the return of snow in the mountains at medium altitude! But the models weather are now unanimous: a radical change in weather taking shape for next week, which will notably be synonymous with rise in temperatures.

Temperatures will start to rise on Sunday

Questioned, meteorologist Yann Amice confirms that temperatures will gradually start to rise again from this Sunday 17th May 2026. And the clear sun will gradually return over the next week with a summer feel.

From this Monday 18th May 2026, high pressures will begin to reestablish themselves across the Atlantic and the Bay of Biscay. Conditions will become much more stable from the start of next week, with generally dry weather, more sunshine and a rise in temperatures.

From the beginning of next week, therefore, the general trend will be towards a drying out of the air mass during the day and a clearer return of clearings to the west – initially.

An anticyclonic cell will be installed in France

This improvement of the weather confirmed on Tuesday 19th May 2026, “with the installation of an anticyclonic cell in France”, continues Yann Amice. Between Wednesday 20th May and Thursday 21st May 2026 in particular, the anticyclone will strengthen significantly.

A configuration which will promote a gentler south to southwest flow to the north and hot to the south with air coming from the peninsula iberian. And a very marked rise in temperatures in France, to summarize.

Maximum temperatures could thus cross the 30°C in the south of the country. By this time, weather models see a blockage of the Azores anticyclone until germany for the end of next week. And so summer conditions settle in France.
