Storm Davide Shakes France this Weekend: What it Has in Store for Us in the Coming Days

She was in the sights of the weather models. She was appointed this Friday 5th December 2025 by Météo France. Storm Davide will impact the country. The forecasts.
Strong wind, lots of rain, and very strong waves. Gusts from the southwest sector have strengthened over the Bay of Biscay and the English Channel. “Particular attention should be paid to the departments of West Manche, West Côtes-d’Armor and Finistère”, Météo France has been warning since Friday.
The extreme weather multiplies the alerts for wind, but also floods and waves-submersion, in a context of high tides, from Friday 5th December until Sunday 7th December 2025. And Monday 8th December, the sensitive wind will still be there. But also rain, in the west, with rain-flood vigilance to fear. In the meantime, Météo France has placed this Saturday around twenty departments on yellow alert for risk of waves-submersion, but also wind, rain-flood, even storms and avalanches.
In question: storm Davide, located in the immediate northwest of Ireland and named this Friday, “and which will generate a swell sometimes 10 meters offshore”, details, meteorologist Yann Amice. And therefore, strong waves on the coasts.
These strong waves are associated with a temporary rise in sea level (surge) during this period of high tidal coefficients (98 in the morning and 97 in the evening this weekend), the conjunction of high sea levels and strong waves risks to cause submersion in exposed or vulnerable areas of the coastline.
Several disruptions will cross France from west to east
This disturbance has progressed slowly since Friday afternoon in Brittany and Vendée. It has already given moderate rain and significant wind inland, and 100 to 110 km/h on the coasts. A wind which will continue north of the Loire for a large part of the weekend and even at the start of next week. Because this flow from west to southwest, humid and windy, is well established.
“The different global (Ecmwf, Gfs) and regional (Ukmo, Icon, Arpege) digital weather models converge towards a highly dynamic situation, with a very powerful jet stream (winds at altitude) which heads from west to east, directly above the north of France and the English Channel”, explains Yann Amice.
It is a succession of thalwegs – outgrowths of depression – which will continue until Wednesday December 10, 2025, with often strong wind over the northern half of the country and rough to very rough seas across the entire Atlantic coast and the English Channel. And a lot of precipitation in the west. Wind, rain, waves, for several days, therefore.
Sunday 7th December, strong waves will still affect the west and south coast of the Brittany, and a risk of orange “wave-submersion” vigilance is not excluded. Sunday afternoon and evening, as well as in the evening of Monday December 8, we cannot exclude temporarily violent winds over Brittany, rather on the coast. The stationarity and intensity of precipitation on Tuesday December 9 also lead us to believe that a switch to orange vigilance for cumulative rainfall in Brittany cannot be ruled out.
METEO FRANCE
An impressive warm spell
It’s a disrupted weekend so on the agenda, with a lot of rain in the west. And a mild spell in anticipation. From this Sunday 7th December, great mild weather will invade the country, sometimes with more than 15°C to the north. The atmosphere will even take on a spring feel over a southern third, under a slightly cloudy sky. Temperatures could exceed 20°C at the foot of the Pyrenees, and go up to 18-19 °C elsewhere in Aquitaine.
In the mountains, after the heavy falls of snow in recent days, it will melt very quickly at low altitude and the risk of’avalanches will be strong on the massifs. A softness that is sometimes very pronounced, which should continue throughout next week.
