England: “Blood Everywhere”… A Knife Attack Leaves 10 Injured on a Train

VIOLENCE: Anti-terrorist police are participating in the investigation after the knife attack left nine victims that “could be in danger of death”
Violence struck Saturday on a train heading to London in the east of England. Ten people were hospitalized, nine of whom “could be in mortal danger”, after a knife attack, according to police who arrested two people.
The police were alerted to an incident on board a train around 7.40pm, following the triggering of the alarm system, and intervened at Huntingdon station, located in the area of the university town of Cambridge, about 120 kilometers north of the capital.
An attack “extremely worrying”, according to Keir Starmer
“The attack was declared a major incident and the police anti-terrorist assisting with the investigation as we work to establish all the circumstances of the incident, Transport Police added. No details were immediately given on the identity of the victims or that of the suspects.
The police had previously indicated that “several people had been stabbed” and “two people arrested” for this attack described as “extremely worrying” by prime Minister Keir Starmer.
Passengers taking refuge in toilets
Witnesses interviewed by the newspaper The Times reported seeing a man armed with a large knife and passengers hiding in the train toilet for protection. A witness cited by several media said he saw a man running in the car, his arm bloody, shouting: “They have a knife! “. Another reported seeing “blood everywhere”.
The train where the attack occurred left at 6.25pm from the town of Doncaster (northern England), bound for London’s King’s Cross station, British Transport Police said. The London North Eastern Railway (LNER), which operates rail links in the east of England and Scotland, has called on travelers to avoid travel, predicting “major disruptions”.
In a country where gun laws are very strict, stabbing violence has increased sharply over the past fifteen years in England and Wales, according to official figures. The Prime Minister has in the past described the situation as a “national crisis”. His government has taken several measures to tighten access to bladed weapons since coming to power in July 2024. Nearly 60,000 of them have been seized or recovered by the police in ten years, Interior Minister Shabana Mahmood said on Wednesday. The minister said on Saturday evening she was “deeply saddened” on X by the attack in Cambridgeshire, confirming the arrest of two suspects.
