Chèque Energie: For Forgotten Beneficiaries, the Government is Opening a Digital Portal

LAST CHANCE: Households that have not automatically been identified for the Chèque énergie can make themselves known via this portal
You may also be entitled to Chèque énergie, the energy cheque that is distributed to those on a low income, to help towards the price of energy during the winter. Its potential energy beneficiaries who have not been automatically identified will be able to make themselves known on a dedicated portal from Wednesday. They will thus be able to claim this aid intended to help low-income households pay their bills d’energy, announced the government.
They will be informed in October by email, SMS or post of the eligibility conditions for the energy check and will be able to make a request on the portal or by post until the 28th February 2026.
The census of households eligible for this annual aid, which amounts on average to 150 euros, has in fact become complicated in recent years.
Until 2023, it was based on the declaration of housing tax on the main residence, since abolished. The Ministry of Finance now establishes a list of beneficiaries by cross-referencing different sources, but does not rule out oversights, hence the need for a complaints window. Last year, a counter was created after the check was distributed and recorded 172,000 requests.
Almost four million households affected
In June, several associations and federations highlighted the difficulties linked to the disappearance of the automatic census of beneficiaries, estimating that in 2024 one million eligible people had not received the cheque.
Distributed in the spring since its creation in 2018, the chèque énergie is exceptionally, paid this year in November, due to the delay in the adoption of the finance law in 2025. It will return to its usual rhythm in 2026. It is expected that 3.8 million households will receive it automatically.
