These Banks Offer Free Joint Accounts for Couples or Roommates

Several online banks offer free joint account offers. Depending on the establishment, some of these offers are accompanied by certain advantages, concerning both the use of cards and guarantees.

The joint account is becoming more popular. If it was previously reserved for married couples, it is now increasingly popular with civil partnership couples, cohabiting couples, and even roommates, in order to facilitate the sharing of daily expenses. In response to this demand, many online banks are offering free joint account offers, reports Money Vox.

Choice from two banks

At Fortuneo, several free joint account offers exist, under the same conditions as individual accounts. There is the basic offer, “Fosfo”, with immediate debit bank cards, free from the first use in the month (3 € otherwise). There is also the Gold Mastercard, free subject to income conditions (2,700 € for two cards, or 1,800 € for one), with additional insurance guarantees. There is even the “World Elite Mastercard” option, again subject to income conditions: 5,500 € for two cards, or 4,000 € for one.

On the BoursoBank side, two free offers exist for joint accounts. “Welcome” gives access to a Visa card with systematic authorization, free as long as an operation is carried out within the month (5 € otherwise). It allows free payments abroad and one free international withdrawal per month. The only obligation is to keep at least 50€ in the account. “Ultim”, for its part, increases the costs of non-regular use of the card to 9 €. In exchange, a card comparable to a Visa Premier is offered, with immediate or deferred debit subject to seniority and minimum debit, as well as additional insurance guarantees.

Other more limited offers

If the offer also exists at Hello bank, it is smaller. “Hello Prime Duo” is paid, but the “Hello One Duo” option is free. The latter is accessible to everyone and includes two immediate debit cards under the same conditions as the aforementioned offers (6 € otherwise). These cards allow fee-free payments, regardless of country or currency, as well as fee-free withdrawals at select partner ATMs.

For Revolut, you must go through the “Standard” offer for a free joint account. It can be opened by two of its customers if they are adults and domiciled in the same country of the European Economic Area. The joint account comes with two free cards with international payments and instant SEPA transfers with no fees. Finally, at N26, the “N26 Standard” offer is free. Each co-holder has a separate IBAN and a free Mastercard virtual card, with international payments and three withdrawals per month free of charge.
