This same plan will result in more than 700 job cuts, a qualified decision of « difficult » but « necessary » by the group, in a statement.
710 Employees impacted on 23300
This “transformation is essential to recover the results and ensure sustainable growth in each of the” stores, justifies french retailer and distributor, who operates in Spain under the name d’Alcampo.
For this reason, Auchan has decided to reorganize its activities in this country via a plan responding “to the new consumer trends”, which will involve the closure of 25 struggling supermarkets and will affect 710 Employees out of a total workforce of 23300, he adds.
According to the distributor from the north of France, the sites concerned are part of lot of 224 supermarkets » acquired in 2023, among which were supermarkets that did not match its model or whose location was not ideal.
The main objective is the maintenance of jobs
For Auchan, this « transformation is essential to recover results and ensure sustainable growth in each of the stores. The French group, which nevertheless reaffirms “its will to continue to grow and create” value in the Spanish market.

Auchan, property of the galaxy Mulliez, has been facing for several years of important economic difficulties. This situation has already led the group to announce at the end of 2024 a broad social plan including site closures and threatening 2400 jobs in France.
