Some iPhones and Anfdroid smartphones not supported by WhatsApp in 2021

UPDATE: The iPhone 4 and lower as well as smartphones running Android 4.0.3 and earlier will no longer be able to use all messaging services

Some people may have to ask for a new smartphone at Christmas. In 2021, some phones running outdated versions of iOS and Android will no longer be able to access WhatsApp, reports  Phonandroid .

The Facebook group’s messaging app has a habit of leaving users on the side of the road every year. In 2019, support for nearly a billion devices was discontinued.

The iPhone 4 affected

On its website, WhatsApp recalls at the end of the year that its application is guaranteed for smartphones running Android 4.0.3 minimum and iPhones running iOS 9 or later. Services are also available for “some phones running KaiOS 2.5.1 and later, including JioPhone and JioPhone 2”.

If your phone has an unsupported version, it will probably still be possible to use WhatsApp, but some features may not work. Fortunately, the majority of iPhones run on an iOS newer than the 9, which launched five years ago. But iPhone 4 and earlier models could be affected.

Regarding phones running Android, the operating system used by the majority of the world’s population, few are affected by WhatsApp’s decision. Less than 0.3% of terminals work with Android 4.0.3 Gingerbread version or lower.
