The Americans are World Champions in the Womens World Cup 2019

The women’s football World Cup 2019 ended with the victory of the United States against the Netherlands (2-0). The Americans win their fourth world title.

It’s official. The United States won the Womens World Cup 2019 on Sunday 7th July 2019, in Lyon, winning 2-0 against the Netherlands.

This is the fourth time that the “Team USA” wins this world title, the last victory being that against Japan in 2015.

A second, brighter half

From the start of the first half, the Dutch have stood up to the defending champions.

The Americans have also long stumbled on the champions of Europe 2017, before the penalty obtained after a foul by Stefanie van Der Gragt and the use of video assistance to arbitration. Drawn by Megan Rapinoe, captain of the American team and the real star of this World Cup 2019 in the 61st minute, he opened the scoring. Rose Lavelle doubled the setting in the 69th thanks to a cross-shot.

The Dutch have fallen on stronger than they, but can be proud of the road travelled.

Do not take a goal in the first quarter of an hour is also a small feat because it had become the usual scenario during this World Cup where the Americans have always started their meetings foot to the floor.

Not this time, where they stumbled on a serious and organized team and the goalkeeper Sari van Veenendaal, impeccable in his cage with four stops in quick succession in the first period.

The Arsenal player first boxed both fists a good recovery of Julie Ertz (27th), then diverted a header of Samantha Mewis (37th). Before being vigilant twice against Alex Morgan, probably the most prominent American with Rose Lavelle.

Morgan attempted a close recovery, pushed back by van Veenendaal (38th), then signed a superb sequence control-shot, still saved by the Dutch goalkeeper (39th), as comfortable in this game as in his semifinal against Sweden.

The Dutch had a hard time to be dangerous except just before the break, during a small moment of panic in the opposing camp.

Clap of the end for the World Cup 2019

Yesterday, Saturday 6 July, Sweden won against England (2-1) in Nice in the “small final”, finishing on the third step of the podium. The French team, meanwhile, had been eliminated in the quarterfinals, against the United States

After a month of competition in France, the 2019 World Cup ends with a rather positive record, including new audiences for women’s football. Gianni Infantino, FIFA’s boss, said the World Cup was the best in history.
