CYCLING: The Colombian rider, Jarlinson Pantano was tested out of competition on February 26th
Colombian Jarlinson Pantano received a positive doping test at EPO and was suspended on a provisional basis, the International Cycling Union (UCI) announced on Monday. Pantano, stage winner in the 2016 Tour de France , was suspended immediately by his team, the American formation Trek (WorldTour).
The test was carried out out of competition, on February 26, by the CADF, the anti-doping foundation of the UCI , two days after the end of the Tour du Haut-Var. The 30-year-old Pantano has four wins. In addition to the stage success obtained at Culoz (Ain) in the 2016 Tour, he has won a stage of the Tour de Suisse (2016), another of the Tour de Catalogne (2018), as well as the national title of the cons-la- watch in 2017.
Trek shares his “deep disappointment”
This season, Jarlinson Pantano did not sign any notable performances (54th of Paris-Nice). His last appearance in the race dates from the first stage of the Tour de Catalunya (surrender), March 25.
The Trek team, led by Luca Guarcilena, expressed his “deep disappointment”: “In accordance with our zero tolerance policy, he (Pantano) was suspended immediately. We impose high ethical standards on our riders and our staff.
