It is an ideal event for a family outing: the great medieval festival of Arkéos, which takes place in Douai (Nord) from Friday 21st to Sunday 23rd September 2018. Details.
This weekend of Friday 21st, Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd of September 2018, a big medieval festival is organized in Arkéos, museum and archaeological park of Douai (North) . Here is the program.
“Immersion in the Middle Ages, you will discover the habits and customs of the time by walking in the camps and during the many activities offered, ” explains the park.
Special program for children
A large playground will test the agility, skill and ingenuity of the youngest.
Children will also visit the Experimental Archeology Farm dedicated to Vikings and their animals.
And for the adults ?
Public participation will be the main theme of the animations. The structure announces:
“You will be able to attend a stone carving demonstration, contribute to the installation of a dry stone vault and be invited to participate in a musical show. Well, you will not be asked to compose dyes or stained glass: they are professionals who will make you discover the magical world of colors!”
In addition to this, a large medieval market (think to come with change) will be installed, a workshop on plants will be provided, as well as introductory sessions to archery, and various demonstrations (leather work , manufacture of chain mail, etc.).
Shows and restoration
Demonstrations of combat and the handling of weapons will punctuate these three days of festivities, some of which are provided by riders and their mounts.
For those who would have a dip, a viking-inspired catering service is planned on site, throughout the weekend. You will find dishes, cakes, toast, breads, pancakes … and drink!
