Saint-Lô: The French Red Cross Offers a Free Introduction to Lifesaving

Local News
Elaura Malgrain is formative PSC 1 (Prevention and civic emergency level 1) to the local unit of Saint-Lô. It provides free lifesaving training

Every Wednesday, the French Red Cross in Saint-Lô offers a free introduction to lifesaving. You will learn to perform CPR and use a defibrillator.

Why offer an initiation?

This free introduction aims to raise awareness of the actions of first aid. The idea is to teach them some basics for how to react if they are faced with a victim of a malaise or cardiac arrest. Until now, it was difficult to offer this type of action because the local unit of Saint-Lô in the French Red Cross works mainly with volunteers, who are not necessarily available. But since my arrival last October, we can implement this initiation. “

What does it involve?

It relates only to cardiac arrest and is divided into four stages. People learn to recognize a victim of cardiac arrest, then to the effectively warning to initiate the rescue chain (how and when? What say?). Another important step: namely intervene with a victim. They should be taught the gestures to practice CPR (where to position hands and how to support?), Then use an AED (example: where to place the electrodes). Every minute saved in implementation of the defibrillator can increase by 10% the chances of survival of the victim. Hence the need to intervene as quickly as possible. “

How will it be held?

The initiation is offered every Wednesday. It lasts 45 minutes and will take place from 3pm to 3.45pm. Seating is limited to 10 people. The initiation is open to everyone from 10 years because you have the strength to perform massage. It requires no knowledge and favors the practice of gestures (CPR on a mannequin, using an educational automatic defibrillator). You just have to register first. “

How to register ?

It’s simple. Just fill out a registration form (download from the website or that you send by email) and send it to us by email. “

To go further
After initiation, you will continue with a degree course recognized by the state , the PSC 1 (Prevention and civic emergency level 1). It lasts 8 hours and costs 60 €.
