Regulated prices of natural gas, still applied by Engie to several million customers in France will increase on average by 2.6% in November 1, according to a decision of the Regulatory Commission of Energy (CRE) published Tuesday in Official Journal .

Regulated tariffs increase by 0.8% to consumers who use gas for cooking, 2.7% for those who use it for heating and 1.2% for those who are dual use heating and cooking, details CRE in its deliberation.

The regulated rate reprieve

This is the second consecutive increase in regulated prices, which fell in the spring and summer before rising again in October due to rising gas prices on the wholesale markets.

Regulated gas tariffs are revised monthly, using a formula that does not include various taxes but takes into account the particular gas prices on the wholesale market and the price of oil.

Since the opening of the energy market to competition, the 10.6 million French subscribers gas consumers have a choice between regulated tariffs of the former monopoly and market prices, as proposed by Engie by its competitors (EDF, Direct Energie Eni, Lampiris, etc.).

Regulated tariffs are suspended since the Council of State, seized by competing suppliers of Engie, ruled in July that their maintenance was contrary to European law.
