The Loire Atlantique has been placed on Orange Alert for strong winds

Loire Atlantique as the Maine-et-Loire, Mayenne, Vendee and the Ille-et-Vilaine are placed in amber alert this Friday morning by Meteo France. Strong gusts of around 90-110 km/h inland are expected. Traffic on the bridge of Saint-Nazaire may be disturbed.

Meteo France placed five new departments in the west of France orange alert in their newsletter 6 am Friday morning the Loire-Atlantique (44), the Maine-et-Loire (49) Mayenne (53 ), the Ille-et-Vilaine (35), and the Vendée (85).

The orange alert is extended to the strong wind phenomenon on the southern Loire Valley and eastern Brittany.

These winds are causing very high waves from the southwest up to the west and south coast of Brittany on Thursday evening.

Attention inland as well, we expect gusts of around 90-110 km/h from Brittany to some of the Loire Valley and Normandy. The sea will be strong and dangerous on the entire Atlantic coast.

Saint-Nazaire Bridge

Traffic may be disrupted on the bridge of Saint-Nazaire on Friday 3rd February. The Loire-Atlantique department recommended already to limit high sided trucks crossing or with a small load to anticipate or defer their passage over the bridge.
