PSA offers a new vehicle to be built at Rennes, but there are conditions for the workforce

Some will denounce blackmail. Others rejoice to see the work of the factory Janais perpetuated. According to AFP, the PSA group will propose on Friday to assign a new vehicle at the Rennes plant. The automaker also commits to modernizing the site, but demand in return for wage restraint until the end of 2019.

100 million euros of investment

A draft agreement “Contract for the Future for Rennes” is subject to the signing of the trade unions on Friday. In this text, it is question of attribution in Rennes a “vehicle originally designed to be manufactured and sold outside Europe.” The contract also mentions “new investments for 100 million euros.”

The granting of the new vehicle in Rennes, however, is “conditional on the signing of the agreement,” said a spokesman of the group, adding that the final decision “will be taken in June.”

The CGT denounced “blackmail”

This agreement could allow the Rennes plant to target the 100,000 vehicles produced each year, against 68,000 in 2015 . The automaker proposes to maintain the senior device and leave the payment of an additional premium of 6,000 euros for some beneficiaries. In exchange, employees are obliged to wage moderation from 2017 to 2019. PSA also removes the additional holidays for workers over 50 years.

In a statement, the CGT union denounced “blackmail an employers where employees will lose any way” with “in return, no permanent hiring, just a vague promise of a new vehicle.”

The factory of Janais saw its workforce halved since 2009. Just over 4,000 people are still employees of the factory, specializing in upscale and today produces the Peugeot 508 and the Citroën C6. A new vehicle, the Peugeot P87 or 6008, should be produced in Rennes next year. This is the replacement for the Peugeot 5008 .
