Netflix Increases its Prices in France

A LITTLE MORE EXPENSIVE: The standard subscription to the Netflix streaming platform now costs 14.99 euros per month

Between 1.50 euros and 2 euros more expensive… Netflix increases its prices in France after increasing its subscriptions in its other major markets, the United States, the United Kingdom and Argentina.

Concretely, as relayed Numerama, prices increase to 7.99 euros per month for the standard subscription with advertising, 14.99 euros per month (standard) and 21.99 euros per month for the premium option.

Nearly $3 billion in profits

On Thursday, the streaming juggernaut revealed its financial results. It achieved $10.54 billion in revenue in the first quarter, up 12.5% year-on-year, from which it generated $2.89 billion in net profit, two results above market expectations. Its stock gained almost 3% during electronic trading after the close of Wall Street.

Netflix expects more than $11 billion in revenue for the current quarter, a better estimate than the market.

The platform had more than 300 million subscribers as of December. It had just gained nearly 19 million new subscriptions during the fourth quarter of 2024, figures that make the competition pale.

Priority to revenue per subscriber

According to Emarkerter expert Ross Benes, the entire streaming industry is now focused less on viewer earnings and more on revenue per subscriber. Hence the strategy oriented towards price increases.

In December, Netflix increased its prices in the United States: the standard plan increased to 18 dollars instead of 15.50 and the cheaper plan with advertising, launched at the end of 2022, to 8 dollars per month instead of 7.

Netflix hopes to start earning significant revenue from this subscription this year. “We doubled our advertising revenue year over year in 2024, and we plan to double it again this year”, it ssaid in January Greg Peters, co-general director of the service.
