DEATH: Police officers who intervened quickly failed to enter the burning house in Seine-Saint-Denis
The fire in a house in Livry-Gargan ( Seine-Saint-Denis ) claimed the life of a 94-year-old woman overnight from Sunday to Monday. The circumstances of the accident were not immediately specified. The departmental service of the judicial police of Seine-Saint-Denis (SDPJ 93) was in charge of the investigation aimed at determining the origin of the fire, indicates Le Parisien.
Police officers on patrol were alerted by thick smoke around 1:45 a.m. As they approached, they discovered a house burning. Neighbours then informed them of the presence inside of the occupant of the pavilion. The police, however, failed to enter to evacuate the nonagenarian.
Warned, the Paris firefighters in turn intervened. The firefighters were able to rescue a dog by evacuating it through a window. On the other hand, they could not do anything for the resident of the house, whose body they found near the front door. The flames were eventually brought under control.
