Julian Alaphilippe still in yellow
The peloton with the yellow jersey, the Frenchman Julian Alaphilippe (Deceuninck), and the other favourites of the Tour, was pointed at more than 18 minutes to about fifteen kilometres from the finish.
Trentine has left his companions 14 kilometres from the finish, before the climb of the small pass of the Sentinel. He kept a thirty-second advantage over Kasper Asgreen of Denmark, a Tour neophyte who runs for the Alaphilippe team.
Belgium’s Greg Van Avermaet took third place, leading a small group at around 40 seconds. The heat, less omnipresent than the day before, even gave way to a heavy downpour during the stage.
At the front, the group of 33 riders trained from the first half-hour of racing after a start of a beating phase split at the threshold of the last 30 kilometres. Trentin caused the selection in two stages before leaving behind his companions.
European champion last summer, the 29-year-old Italian had already won twice in the Tour in 2013 and 2014.
Trentin signed the fourth stage victory for their team, after the successes of South Africa’s Daryl Impey and British Simon Yates twice.
