The Spaniard, Rafael Nadal once again won Roland-Garros by beating Austria’s Dominic Thiem in four sets. He becomes the first player in history to win this title so many times.
Rafael Nadal took his twelfth historic victory at Roland-Garros, defeating Austrian Dominic Thiem in four sets 6-3, 5-7, 6-1, 6-1 on Sunday 9th June 2019.

Superlatives are missing more and more to talk about Nadal at Roland Garros. And his 12th coronation Porte d’Auteuil places him in a world apart.
He becomes the first player in history, men and women alike, to win the same major title twelve times. At 33, the Spaniard, N.2 world, now has eighteen crowns in Grand Slam and returns to two lengths of the record held by Roger Federer. He also became the 3rd oldest player of the Open era (since 1968) to win Roland Garros (with Andres Gimeno in 1972 and Ken Rosewall in 1968).
Before Nadal, the Swede Björn Borg held the record of victories at Roland Garros with 6 trophies.

Three hours of the match
In front of Dominic Thiem, who beat him in Barcelona on the ground a month before the beginning of the fortnight, the Spaniard only bowed a few minutes, to yield – a little to the general surprise – the second set.
A moment of inattention that undoubtedly caught the eye as the two sets that followed was difficult for the Austrian, perhaps also tired by his semifinal ended the day before Novak Djokovic.
Dominic Thiem, however, tried everything early in the game, putting pressure Nadal has rarely known Porte d’Auteuil. The first forty minutes of the match has even reached peaks of intensity.
