Pierre Gasly (Red Bull) takes sixth place while Romain Grosjean (Haas) scores his first points of the season.
Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) conquered the Spanish Grand Prix on Sunday, taking the lead of the world championship to his team-mate Valtteri Bottas, who finished second, and leaving even more disappointing Ferrari.
Mercedes thus realize their fifth d forgotten in as many races since the beginning of the season.
The British driver took the lead from the start, overtaking Bottas who had achieved pole position. He was not caught while Max Verstappen (Red Bull) finished 3rd in front of Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc.
Bottas found himself caught in sand wich in the first corner between Hamilton and Vettel but managed to hold the second place just as the Ferrari driver from Germany had to go a bit wide and pass Verstappen.
All eyes were on this first corner where Hamilton and his teammate then, Nico Rosberg, had provoked in 2016 a clash that had both eliminated.
“I always get on very well with Valtteri Bottas,” said the five-time British World Champion and outgoing champion after the finish. The Finnish driver attributed his poor start to clutch problems and acknowledged that the first corner between Hamilton and Vettel “was a bit tight” .
With this win, Hamilton took the lead in the championship ahead of Bottas, pocketing the extra point of the lap record.
