What to expect from Act 20 Yellow Vests

Act 20 Yellow Vests starts Saturday 30th March, 2019. Despite prohibitions to demonstrate, especially on the Champs-Elysees, law enforcement fear clashes.

The ” yellow vests “, indifferent to the national debate that plays extra time, rally Saturday, March 30, 2019 for their twentieth day of mobilisation despite the prohibition to demonstrate in the face of fear of new clashes.

On the one hand the occupation of the street, on the other the meeting of the elected officials: the “yellow vests” and Emmanuel Macron observe a strict respect of their respective agendas, without a dialogue seems to be established since the launch of the big debate in January to solve this unprecedented social crisis.

The fear of new clashes

Scarred by the rampage on the Champs-Elysees during Act 18 , the Paris police headquarters again banned Saturday demonstrations on the famous avenue, as well as in a perimeter including the Elysee and the National Assembly.

Two demonstrations and four rallies were declared, said the prefecture in a statement, without specifying the places. She still fears “erratic wanderings” or “wild processions” during their dispersions.

The new offense of 135 euros, to which expose those who brave the prohibition, remains in force after the rejection Friday by the State Council recourse of the League of Human Rights (LDH).

Calls to gather place du Châtelet or Gare de l’Est late morning to rally the Place du Trocadero, have circulated on the internet.

Faced with the heavy police apparatus deployed in Paris, the authorities fear a relocation of clashes in provincial cities, as last Saturday in Nice, where a spokesman for Attac had been injured in a charge of the police.

The prosecutor said Friday that the fall of Geneviève Legay, 73, was caused by a police officer . The latter claimed to have pushed a man before rectifying his testimony.

And in the regions?

In Bordeaux, where the center is like for several weeks prohibited to “yellow vests”, the new mayor Nicolas Florian has decreed a day “city-dead” by saying “very worried about what could happen.” The prefecture mentioned the announced presence of “hundreds of thugs”.

In Avignon, the prefecture of Vaucluse, which fears the presence of “violent militant groups”, has banned any gathering or demonstration from 9:00 am to midnight, “intramural” and on several peripheral axes. “Yellow vests”, however, met at the “Palais des Papes”, arguing that “it is not forbidden to walk.”

In Saint-Etienne, Toulouse, Epinal and Rouen, prefectures have also banned demonstrations to prevent violence and looting. Parades have also been announced in Marseille, Rennes, Caen, Rouen, Montbeliard (Doubs), Strasbourg or Nice.

Last Saturday, for Act 19, 40,500 people demonstrated in France, including 5,000 in Paris, according to figures from the Ministry of the Interior, challenged by the “yellow vests” whose own count counted 127,212 demonstrators in all the country.
