Two litres per 100 kilometers on average. This is the record claimed by Peugeot (PSA Peugeot Citroen) on Monday for a  peugeot 208 . In all, the car equipped with a 1.6 litre diesel engine, the Blue HDI version, travelled 2152 km with 43 ​​litres of diesel.

A record realized in ideal conditions

The automotive group on Monday, said that this record, achieved in late April on the PSA test circuit at Belchamp (Doubs), took place over 38 hours with drivers taking turns every three or four hours. This was performed “under the control of the French certification organization UTAC” and under ideal conditions, that any daily driver would be able to replicate in a real life driving conditions.

According to Peugeot, the feat is a true “absolute record of consumption of a large distribution vehicle over a long distance.” Furthermore, the model, peugeot 208, is a version with “very low consumption” available for purchase today in the peugeot network.  As a reminder, in 2011, a Skoda Fabia Diesel (Volkswagen) had it consumed 2.21 liters per 100 km on a motorway journey of 2006 kilometers.
