The increase in the price of gas amounts to 3.25% on average for the 4.5 million households benefiting from regulated tariffs
New increase for regulated natural gas rates . The prices applied by Engie (ex-GDF Suez) will increase an average of 3.25% in October, according to a deliberation of the Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE) published Tuesday in the Official Journal.
4.5 million households affected by regulated tariffs
The increase will be 1% for users of gas for cooking, 3.3% for those who use gas to heat, and 2% for users who make a dual use cooking and heating, details the CRE. This increase is due to the increase in Engie’s supply cost.
This is the sixth consecutive month of increase (excluding taxes) for these regulated tariffs, applied on average to 4.5 million households. Since the beginning of the year, rates have fallen only twice, in March and April.
10 million French gas subscribers
Since the opening of the energy market to competition, the 10.6 million French consumers subscribing to gas have the choice between the regulated tariffs of the old monopoly and the market prices, proposed by both Engie and its competitors
But these tariffs will gradually disappear to comply with European law. The government plans to make an order for their extinction on 1 July 2023. An amendment to this effect to the Pact Act, which is being debated in Parliament, was adopted in committee. Once the law is promulgated, the government will have six months to make orders
