Snow and Ice in Lorraine: Trucks Prohibited from Circulation and Stored on the A4

Trucks are closed to traffic on some Lorraine roads, this Friday, March 2, 2018

The prefecture of defense and security of the East zone hardens its traffic restrictions against trucks in Lorraine because of a violent episode of ice, this Friday.

The situation is getting worse on the roads and motorways of Lorraine. The episode of freezing rain, announced Thursday 1st March, affects many areas of the region.

Many traffic jams have formed in Meuse, Moselle and Meurthe-et-Moselle. In addition, the freezing rain continues to fall on several cities in the region late in the morning, including Metz and Nancy. Faced with these blockages, the prefecture of the East Zone has decided to tighten the truck traffic restrictions .

Since 10.30am, it has been completely banned on the A4 motorway since the intersections with the N44 and A340. The departments concerned are Marne, Meuse, Meurthe-et-Moselle, Moselle and Bas-Rhin.

Storage measures of trucks over 7.5 tons, according to the prefecture. In detail, there are several sectors involved:

  • in the Marne at the Valmy level in the Paris-Strasbourg direction;
  • in Meurthe-et-Moselle at Beaumont in both directions of traffic;
  • in Moselle at Saint-Avold in both directions of traffic;
  • in Moselle at Loupershouse in the direction Strasbourg-Paris.

For drivers traveling on roads affected by ice, the prefecture advises to stop as soon as possible on dedicated areas including rest areas.
