The south of France continues to be ravaged by fires. Saturday afternoon around Aubagne (Bouches-du-Rhône) a new forest fire broke out. Significant rescue equipment have been mobilized. Residents were forced to be confined to their homes, others were evacuated.
At 20:30, 150 hectares have been ravaged by the flames, according to the CODIS, the Operational Center Fire and rescue of Bouches-du-Rhône . In addition, the train traffic between Aubagne and Marseille was totally interrupted from 7pm to allow free access to aid, said SNCF.
The prefecture has opened a crisis center, while the fire broke out in a wooded area and with many individual dwellings.
Containment call
The fire, which was reported to firefighters around 5.30pm, progressed quickly Saturday night, in the presence of a Mistral, which was to strengthen in the evening. Firefighters of the Rhone delta hired 270 firefighters and 80 combat and command equipment and are supported by departmental air resources (water bomber helicopters) and six aircraft of civil security (4 Canadair, 2 tracker 1 and dash).
The mayor of Carnoux-en-Provence, town towards which seems to be heading the fire according to the prefecture, opened Saturday night a municipal hall to accommodate the residents. On social networks and their releases, authorities call people living near the fire to be confined inside their homes by closing shutters and windows, removing the gas and facilitating bottles access relief (leave open the portals).
On Saturday, all the forests of the Bouches-du-Rhône were closed to all traffic, including walking, due to drought and wind, conducive to fire outbreak.
