Four in police custody after the failed attack on the Champs-Elysées occurred Monday afternoon. Those arrested are part of the entourage close to the man who voluntarily crashed his car against a police van.
Four family members of the radicalized Islamist, aged 31, who died in a failed attack on the Champs Elysee, which made no other victims, were taken into custody Monday night.
The ex-wife of Adam Dzaziri and his brother and sister were arrested late Monday afternoon during searches at the home of the family Plessis-Pâté, in Essonne, said a judicial source. The father of the assailant was in turn “placed in custody in the evening as he returned to the home”, the source said.
Coming from a Salafist family, Adam Dzaziri had never been convicted but he was tagged S (for State Security) by the security services since 2015 for membership in the radical Islamist movement.
Asked when he was returning home, his father told Adam Dzaziri “was a weapon that was declared, he trained in shooting” . Despite being classed as a possible security risk (being tagged S), he enjoyed indeed a weapon possession permit, a source close to the matter.
At the heart of tourist Paris
The attack, which has not been claimed, occurred shortly before 4 pm Monday in the heart of tourist Paris, nearly two months after the murder of a police officer on April 20 by a jihadist killed by the security forces, already close to the Rond-Point des Champs-Elysees. The investigation was entrusted to the anti-terrorist section of the Paris police and the ISB by the Paris prosecutor.
On June 6, Farid Ikken, claiming to be a “caliphate soldier” , had his side attacked with a hammer a member of a police patrol on the steps of Notre Dame cathedral , another landmark of Paris.
This new attack in a country that lives under the exceptional regime of state of emergency since the attacks of November 2015 came two days before the presentation by the Cabinet of a new anti-terrorism law.
