Heatwave: 39 °C in Agen, 38 °C in Toulouse or Carcassonne… These Cities will Experience a New, Unprecedented Heat Episode

Météo-France announces a heatwave episode from Friday which should break heat records for the month of September, with temperatures reaching up to 39 °C, Sunday being announced as the “hottest” day

The new heatwave episode announced by Météo-France, starting Friday noon, should be accompanied by new heat records for the month of September. “Monthly heat records of Toulouse (35.3 °C), Carcassonne (36.4 °C) are likely to be beaten, forecast The Weather Channel.

Sunday promises to be “the hottest”. Temperatures will gain another 1 to 2 °C to reach 38 °C in Toulouse and Montauban, 39 °C in Auch and Agen. “Temperatures will then drop significantly at the start of next week, from Monday or Tuesday.

This Thursday, the temperatures has already reached peaks around the Mediterranean basin, notably in Perpignan (36 °C) and Marseille (34 °C) according to temperatures recorded at 4 p.m. by Météo-France. Meteorologists placed five departments (Hérault, Aude, Gard, Drôme and Ardèche) on orange heatwave alert on Friday, from noon, and ten others on yellow alert.

The situation is particularly rare for the period. “In September, with nights longer than in the heart of summer, it becomes difficult to exceed the heatwave thresholds of minimum temperatures for three consecutive days”, underlines The Weather Channel.
