Floods: The Charente Approaches 8 Metres in Cognac and Reaches a Plateau in Angoulême

The level of the Charente continues to rise in Cognac and could exceed 8 meters. In Angoulême, the decline remains timid. Residents are experiencing a flood that takes hold over time.

7.85 meters currently, the highest level reached since the start of this flood episode, according to Vigicrues. Between 7.95 and 7.99 meters expected tomorrow morning, with a forecast curve oriented to pass the 8 meter mark. The level of the Charente is racing again in Cognac, where the heavy rainfall of the day, the storm, and the waterlogged soils swell the waters of the Charente. The Cognac residents of the Charente have been living in the water for 5 days and this should unfortunately last.

In Angoulême, the Charente rose again all day yesterday, until the middle of the night, reaching 4.94 meters (compared to 4.95 this weekend). She is now struggling to come back down. The decline promises to be very slow along the entire course of the river.
