Air Fryer, Dryers, Radiators… Why 2024 Boosted Sales of Household Appliances.

The gloomy weather of the year 2024 boosted sales in the household appliance sector, especially Air Fryers, dryers and radiators
Les sales of mobile radiators or dryers surged in 2024, particularly wet year in France, which did not deny the adage according to which the market of the’ household appliance is dependent on the weather.
The area was pulled by the small household appliances, which crossed the historic threshold of 4 Billion euros, according to a NielsenIQ-GfK study published Wednesday, February 12, 2025 by the interprofessional group of manufacturers of’apparatus and’houseware (Gifam), representing a hundred brands.
With 15 % rainfall above normal, 2024 figures « among the 10 wettest » years since 1959 and has experienced a high sunshine deficit, according to Meteo France.
Direct impact
This humidity has had impact on sales of small household appliances, including dehumidifiers, which have experienced “a beautiful craze”, with sales up 63 %, detailed to the AFP Laurent Cours, director of studies and statistics at Gifam. Mobile radiators also saw their sales jump (+13.5 %).
In large household appliances, the lack of’sunshine hurt the good old clothesline and boosted dryers sales, which rose by 13.2%. They have also benefited from on-board’innovations, allowing to reduce their energy consumption, according to Laurent Cours, who quotes “dryers and heat pumps”.
Conversely, sales of refrigerators (-7%), « correlated with high temperatures, were penalized by the gloomy weather of’s Summer 2024 , stresses the Gifam.
Overall, the turnover of’ domestic appliance reached 9.6 billion’euros in France, up 1 % compared to 2023, for 68 Million products sold.
The Air Fryer phenomenon
The sector was therefore supported by small household appliances, which rose by % in value, to reach 4.03 billion’euros, according to the study.
As in previous years, the most spectacular increases concern fryers without oils or « Air Fryer », including “sales doubled in 2024”, with more than 2.6 million’devices sold (+140 % in value). More than one in four’s is now equipped with it, according to the study.
>The large household appliances, on the other hand, has experienced a new decline (-3.9 %), which is mainly explained by the persistent crisis of the real estate market, the purchase of these products, especially kitchen appliances, being “often correlated with the acquisition of’a real estate or a move”, stressed the Gifam.
According to NielsenIQ-GFK projections, this decline is expected to slow in 2025, given the expected recovery in real estate transactions.
