Swimming: At 16, Canadian Summer McIntosh Breaks the 400m Freestyle World Record

SWIMMING RECORD: 16-year-old Canadian Summer McIntosh broke the 400m freestyle world record previously held by Australian Ariarne Titmus

Canadian Summer McIntosh, 16, broke the 400-meter freestyle world record in Toronto on Tuesdaywhich was held by Australian Ariarne Titmus during the Canadian selections for the next World Championships in Fukuoka, Japan (from July 14 to 30).

McIntosh clocked 3’56”08, beating the previous record of 3’56”40 set by Titmus at the Australian Championships in Adelaide on May 22, 2022. At 16 years and 7 months, she becomes the second youngest holder of a current world record in the Olympic pool (50m) behind the Italian Benedetta Pilato, who had beaten that of the 50m breaststroke in May 2021, at 16 years and 4 months.
