Lucky Strike, Marlboro, Camel… Many brands of cigarettes and rolling tobacco will take a few tens of cents and up to a euro.
If you are a smoker, this news should not make you happy… Among the new products of the month, the price of tobacco will increase on the 1st March 2023, for many leading brands in the field, like Philipp Morris, Marlboro, or Lucky Strike.
This is the customs website that lists the price of packets of cigarettes and roll-your-own tobacco. With substantial increases, ranging from 50 cents to one euro. The price of the package sometimes crosses the bar of 11 euros, and the price of rolling tobacco from 15 euros.

Announced increase
This increase had already been announced by Elisabeth Borne with the vote of the Social Security Financing Act . The government had expressed the will to revalue the prices in line with inflation, taking into account the price increase of the previous year, and no longer N-2, as was the case before.
“I confirm that the price of the package will increase like inflation. It would be quite paradoxical for the increase in cigarettes to be lower than inflation, that means that the price would drop relatively.”
It was also planned to increase the taxation of rolling tobacco and heated tobacco (for which a specific tax category will be created), products to which some consumers fall back due to the rise in the price of a pack of cigarettes.
On May 1st, 2022, the price of tobacco was already rising, for certain brands (and had even fallen for others). But the increase was not so substantial.
