CYCLING: After Chris Froome, another great favourite, Tom Dumoulin has announced he will not participate in this year’s Tour de France
This year’s Tour de France loses another of its favourites one after the other. While Chris Froome dropped out last week because of a nasty fall in Dauphine, it’s the turn of Tom Dumoulin, one of the big names in the pack, to give up. Not in shape after a season rotten by injuries, Dumoulin preferred to insure. “I realized that it is not realistic for me to hope to be at my level in time,” he says in a statement released by his team, Sunweb. I really tried to be there, but I have to listen to my body. ”
After Froome, 3rd last year, it is Dumoulin, 2nd, who will not be at the start of the Tour de France in Belgium, on the 6th July. The winner last year, Geraint Thomas will be in the game despite his fall (ultimately not serious) on the Tour de Suisse.
