The bomb of the Second World War discovered on April 26th, 2019 in the centre of Colombelles (Calvados) will be defused Sunday 30th June.

The city center of Colombelles (Calvados) will be deserted on Sunday, June 30, 2019. At least during the defusing of the bomb from the Second World War discovered on April 26 in the city center of the town.

The Prefecture of Calvados provides a security perimeter of up to 400 meters around the bomb so that the deminers can perform their operation of “débombage”.

Practically all the town of Colombelles is impacted by this perimeter as well as a part of the departmental road 226. “A little less than 2 000 inhabitants are concerned”, explains the mayor of the commune Marc Pottier, is close to a third of the population of the municipality.

Perimeter evacuated at 8 am

No pedestrian or vehicle can enter this perimeter from 7 am on Sunday. The inhabitants of this area will have to leave their home at 8 o’clock. The security perimeter should be raised around 4 pm 

The city of Colombelles will open a site to accommodate people who do not know where to go during the defusing.
