On Friday, a 62-year-old homeless man was found dead in a forest near Mantes-la-Jolie. The cold is certainly the cause of his death
Alain had made his home on the edge of the forest, next to a field that borders the D983 at Auffreville-Brasseuil . He lived in a tiny makeshift hut, a heap of sheet metal where he had room to put a little mattress and pile up his belongings. It is in these Spartan conditions that this homeless man of 62 years was found dead, on Friday in the middle of the afternoon . He died as a result of cardiac arrest, probably caused by the cold .
His friend, who is also homeless, made the macabre discovery. Both of them regularly visited the Déclic association in Mantes-la-Jolie to receive help. Worried that he had not seen him for some time, his companion in misfortune had come to visit him.
“According to the medical examiner, the death goes back two days, but these findings could be distorted by the low temperatures,” says a source familiar with the matter.
Alain had been living in this building for several years. It was pretty well laid out according to a gendarme who went there. “Outside, he had improvised a stove to heat himself and he had isolated from the rest of the cabin a corner that served as a toilet. ”
He had settled on private land. The owner of the plot, affected by the situation of the homeless, closed his eyes on his presence. “In the village, he was pretty well received. He was a nice person who had never been noticed badly, “said the policeman.
Alain had no known family. No autopsy was ordered, the first findings indicating a natural death.
