The socialist president of Venezuela Nicolás Maduro called to “continue the legacy” of the father of the Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro. “All the revolutionaries of the world, we have to continue his legacy and his banner of independence, socialism, human homeland,” said he wrote on his Twitter account.


Russian President Vladimir Putin has meanwhile described the Cuban leader as “a symbol of an era” in a statement. “This man emeritus State is rightly regarded as the symbol of an era in the modern history of the world,” Putin said in a message to Cuban President Raul Castro, adding that “Fidel Castro was a sincere friend reliable and Russia. ”

The former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev said to him that Castro could “strengthen” his country and resist the US blockade. “Fidel resisted and strengthened his country in the United States embargo hardest, when there was a monumental pressure on him and he was able (…) to lead his country on the path of independent development,” said the last leader of the USSR, quoted by Interfax.
