Thousands of residents in the Alpes-Maritimes woke up during night with a start. The earth shook repeatedly in the night from Wednesday to Thursday, including at 3.45am and 3.48am, with respective magnitudes of 3.7 and 4.1 . A total of 18 earthquakes hit the Southern Alps in less than half a day, says Le Dauphiné Libéré .
The epicenter would be located near Gap, near the village of La Motte-du-Caire in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence.

New tremors occurred on Thursday in the early morning, at 7 am and 7.30 am, respectively 2 and 2.1 magnitude.
Earthquakes had already occurred in the afternoon, the largest reaching a magnitude of 3.8, according to the ReNaSS .
