He was convicted of possession and distribution of child abuse images and violence without premeditation. A principal of the school in Cadaujac, near Bordeaux , was sentenced on Wednesday to three years in prison, with one year suspended. This sentence is subject to a probation period of two years with compulsory treatment and to compensate victims.
This 46-year-old teacher was arrested a year ago for possession of more than 60,000 pornographic files with images of child pornography from abroad, and making poor quality photos and videos of his students during field trips, without their knowledge. Photos and videos of sexual content downloaded from the Internet, had not been taken by the school teacher.
“A severe punishment but fair”
“It’s a tough but fair punishment because there was a lot of views, many rape, unbearable images”, told the lawyer Noémie Saidi-Cottier of the Association Innocence in danger. Many children from the Bordeaux area, where the man was stationed, were recognized on the images by their teachers and fifteen families were civil parties, she said.
The guidelines, three years in prison, six months suspended – were virtually followed. The teacher was liable to seven years imprisonment for acts of capturing and disseminating images.
He had attempted suicide during his arrest
Single, the teacher since 1995, had no criminal record and had never been the subject of a complaint or administrative proceedings in institutions where he was stationed, nor Cadaujac since 2013 or before.
He was suspended on the 2nd November, 2015 by the Ministry of Education, and had attempted suicide during his arrest on the 27th October, following a police investigation that was opened after an alert launched by a relative.
