The first psychiatric unit that specializes in receiving prisoners in the region will open on the 18th July in Cadillac, a town located about thirty kilometres south-east of Bordeaux. This will be the eighth specially equipped hospital unit (UHSA) of France and will have 40 beds, reports Southwest .

Attached to the specialized hospital in Cadillac, this unit aims to support inmates requiring psychiatric care in inpatient. Inmates from the prison of twenty interregional direction Bordeaux Prison Service will have priority access to 40 places of the structure.

From the outside, the structure will look like a prison with a wall around 6 metres high and barbed wire that encircle. There will be 40 prison officials responsible for security work on site and 80 medical professionals will support patients in the ward.
The institution was born as part of a construction program launched nationwide and that emanates from the Perben law. The cost of construction is 15 million.
