Terrible coincidence at Aire-sur-la-Lys. One person was electrocuted and seven people slightly injured by the lightning strike which occurred at a church on the 2nd March, just before the start of a funeral ceremony.
The accident, reported by the Echo of the Lys , occurred just before 3pm in the church of the hamlet of Rincq. The building had about 120 people gathered for the ceremony of homage to a parishioner of 95 years.
A person electrocuted
Lightning struck the church steeple in a crash, also causing the explosion of lights. According to a report by the Nord littoral , forty people were treated for shock on the arrival of firefighters. Seven had hearing problems, but above all, one person was electrocuted due to lightning strike.
The electrical cabinet of the Church has been ravaged by lightning, while cars parked around the building were damaged by rock falls from the steeple.
The funeral had to be postponed.
